A First For Me!!!

Yesterday, Harley Man received a large box from UPS and he was stoked! (Note: the photo to the left is just a photo I found to illustrate how the bike looked in the box) You see he has been riding this around town for almost 2 years!

Recumbent Trike

As of 5:00 P.M. yesterday, he is now riding this!  For the first time ever, I helped him assemble a recumbent bike!!  Yep, I was his assistant...helping to put on the chain, cut the chain, put on the seat cover, help with the gear line, etc.  It took over 3 hours to assemble (part of that time spent putting the chain on and off after repeated measuring) but we got it done.

Recumbent Bike

Let's just say the whole process has been interesting:  missing parts due to UPS knocking a hole in the large box, overnight shipping of missing parts, the cutting of the chain that was too long due to the chain being in the missing parts box, the missing parts arriving from the UPS Center (they found the box, opened it and found out it belonged to Harley Man so they sent it) after we had finally cut the chain to the correct length (yep, the missing chain cut to the appropriate length was in that box), the side mirror that wouldn't fit in the handlebar and required so additional assistance from a hammer!!  Oh there were more adventures with this bike assembly, too many to list but you get my drift!!  Anyway, it's done...it works and he's been out on the road testing it out.

Now we are off to get pedal clips, reflector tape and a new helmet!!  This adventure has just begun!! Lol!!!!!

You've Got To Be Kidding!!!!!!!!!!!

That was the look on Harley Man's face as we pulled over onto the edge of the Interstate.  Here it was, a cool, crisp day and we were leathered up and riding on his Harley to meet the other H.O.G. members for the annual Polar Bear ride.  I was on the back enjoying the view and thinking about what a great ride we'd have and the delicious food we would eat New Year's Day!!!

Suddenly there was a clank..then a clash and then we both looked back and what to our wondering eyes did we see but the saddlebag of his Harley sliding across the right lane of the Interstate.  Yep...it came off as we were cruising around 65 miles an hour!!!!

How it happened, why it happened...we were both clueless.  Harley Man had opened the saddlebags prior to leaving our garage..making sure we had our rain suits and some other items.  There was no shaking, no rattling; it was as secure as could be.  No way the thing should have come off unless someone blasted it off!!!!

Needless to say...we were so lucky no one ran over it or hit it!!!  I mean the thing came off the right side of the bike and slid to the right (which was an entry ramp onto the highway)....thank heavens!!!  Harley Man ran...picked it up and put it back on the bike.  Once we met up with our H.O.G. friends, he checked both bags and for the rest of the day had that look on his face!   Especially as he looked at the scratches, dents and messed up paint job!!!!!!!!!!!

Miscellany Monday-Round 2

Miscellany Monday @

  • Whew....another busy weekend completed!!!  Harley Man and I enjoyed participating in the Salisbury H.O.G. Chili Cook-Off and Dessert Bake-Off this past Saturday!!  Even though setting up was during a pretty "chilly" (no pun intended) time of the morning, the day turned out to be a success.  Our friends Vickie and Keith won the trophy for the Chili Cook-Off! Great food, lots of fun and plenty of fellowship was had by all who attended the event!!  Oh...I won the trophy for the Dessert Bake-Off...can you believe that!!!!  What did I make???  Why Red Velvet Cake Balls..of course!!!

  • My niece, Merv, is getting ready to be deployed to Afghanistan and we were fortunate to be able to visit with her Saturday afternoon and evening!  Merv came home for a little R&R with her family.  We had a blast!!!  Lots of laughing and picture taking with the family!!!  We all love Merv dearly and will miss her so much!

  • Did you watch the NASCAR race Sunday???  Now I am by no means a die hard fan but I must say it was an awesome race!!!!  Kudos to Tony Stewart and Carl Edwards for a hard fought race!!  Way to go, SMOKE!!!  Congratulations on winning the 2011 Championship!!

  • While visiting with Merv, my wonderful SIL made a yummy dinner and dessert.  Have you tried Pumpkin Cream Cheese Dip?  If not, you are missing a delicious treat.  Hopefully, SIL will share her recipe with me and then I'll share it with you!!

    What Is That????

Have you seen a really weird transportation device around town?  It's red, low to the ground and has a flag sticking up on the back!!!!  Well, if you've seen it then you've seen Harley Man!  LOL  Nope, it's not a motorcycle....although he does use that mode of transportation quite often.

Give up??  Okay, I'll tell you...it's a recumbent trike.  Yep, we have one of those at our house and Harley Man makes regular trips around town on it.  Talk about a conversation piece!  Now Harley Man is all about maintaining a healthy lifestyle and for  years he's been riding a bicycle.  He decided he needed something a tad more challenging so we went looking and found a recumbent trike he thought would fit the bill!!

So early in the morning or late in the afternoon, he heads out to get in some physical activity on his trike.  He's been looking for others who ride a recumbent around the area but alas...no one has been found thus far.  So the next time you see this:
give a wave because it's my Harley Man cruising the area!!!  Lol!!!
