You've Got To Be Kidding!!!!!!!!!!!

That was the look on Harley Man's face as we pulled over onto the edge of the Interstate.  Here it was, a cool, crisp day and we were leathered up and riding on his Harley to meet the other H.O.G. members for the annual Polar Bear ride.  I was on the back enjoying the view and thinking about what a great ride we'd have and the delicious food we would eat New Year's Day!!!

Suddenly there was a clank..then a clash and then we both looked back and what to our wondering eyes did we see but the saddlebag of his Harley sliding across the right lane of the Interstate.  Yep...it came off as we were cruising around 65 miles an hour!!!!

How it happened, why it happened...we were both clueless.  Harley Man had opened the saddlebags prior to leaving our garage..making sure we had our rain suits and some other items.  There was no shaking, no rattling; it was as secure as could be.  No way the thing should have come off unless someone blasted it off!!!!

Needless to say...we were so lucky no one ran over it or hit it!!!  I mean the thing came off the right side of the bike and slid to the right (which was an entry ramp onto the highway)....thank heavens!!!  Harley Man ran...picked it up and put it back on the bike.  Once we met up with our H.O.G. friends, he checked both bags and for the rest of the day had that look on his face!   Especially as he looked at the scratches, dents and messed up paint job!!!!!!!!!!!

Polar Bear Ride 2012

Yep, on January 1st we did it again...the annual Polar Bear Ride was a go for our H.O.G. Club.  We had a large group of motorcycle riders again this year...I didn't count bikes but I'm estimating we had about 35+ bikes and over 50 people.  I rode with Harley Man this year and the weather really wasn't "polar"...it was around 55 degrees.

Once again we descended upon Denton, NC to eat at The Classic Restaurant....so did everybody else in the surrounding area!!!  LOL!  We had our traditional southern meal....ham, fat back, turnip greens, blackeyed peas, cornbread, banana pudding and more.  In the South we eat these items for a reason: pork for progress; greens for prosperity, blackeyed peas for good luck!!! 

We had a wonderful time full of food, fellowship, fun and of course.....riding!!

Second Annual Spook-tacular Saturday

Before you take the kids out trick-or-treating on Halloween, make a trip to Tilley H-D and get some candy for yourself. The annual Spook-tacular Saturday will be loads of fun for everyone!!

Trunk-or-Treat? No...we Tourpak-or-Treat!!
The "Tourpak-or-Treat" will be open to the public this year so you don't need to be a member of the Salisbury H.O.G. Chapter to dress your bike up. Decorate your bike in spooky style and hand out candy for the kids, big and little. The "Tourpak or Treat" will start at 10 a.m. and run until 3 p.m. 

Best Costume Contest!
Dress up as your favorite movie character, your creepiest ghoul or goblin or whatever you like. The Best Costume Contest will be for kids and adults...so dress up the little ones and let them join in the fun. The contest judging will be at 11 a.m. and awards will be presented at 1 p.m.! The contest categories will include: Ugliest, Best, Funniest, Scariest, Best Couple and Most Original for Adults. Best, Funniest, Cutest, and Scariest for kids.

Pumpkin Carving Contest!
Bring your pre-carved pumpkin from home and enter it into the contest. The contest will be judged at noon and the awards will be presented at 1 p.m.! Be creative and most of all have fun.

DJ Fast Freddie
Favorite local DJ will be here spinning some Spook-tacular tunes for you during the festivities.

Food and Drinks
"To-The-Point" Dance studio will be here with hot dogs and drinks will be provided by Cheerwine during the festivities.

Corn Hole Toss!
For all of you who love to play corn hole, we will have the boards set up from 10 a.m. til 3 p.m. for games so come out and try your luck and win some prizes.

Pinata!
There will be a pinata for a chance at some extra candy for the kids at noon.

Rubber Ducky Gamble
Try your luck for a prize in the Rubber Ducky Gamble from 10 a.m. til 3 p.m.!!

Wow, the last day of August!!!!  Time just seems to fly by these days and tomorrow begins September...can you believe it???  So what does Biker Blues and BBQ have to do with this, you ask??  Well, the first Biker Blues and BBQ Rally and BBQ Classic is coming up September 23rd-24th at Tilley's Harley-Davidson in Salisbury and I wanted to give you a heads-up about this event so you can put it on your calendar.

My friend, Gary,
is the event organizer and he needs everyone to head on over to this event in September.  Doesn't matter if you are a motorcycle rider, a motorcycle lover or just like to have fun on the weekends....this event is for the whole family.  There will be a Kansas City Barbeque Society sanctioned Cook-Off, Hot Air Balloon Rides, a Kids Corner, vendors, a Poker Run, a Bike Show, music...just a whole lot of things going on at this event.

Heck Yeah, I Can Pack Light!!!

There are times when I ride on the back of Harley Man's motorcycle...especially when we venture into the mountains.  Why??  I really am not comfortable with riding my motorcycle in the mountains.  I've done it many times but I just can't get comfortable with it just yet.  Go figure!!

Anyways...we travel on the motorcycle on short weekend trips to various locations.  When we first started these trips, I had no clue how to pack for a weekend.  I mean- a girls got a lot of important stuff to take on a trip, right??  There's clothes, hairdryer, curling iron, makeup, shoes, jackets...you get the idea.  Well, lots of that important stuff has to stay behind when packing for a motorcycle trip.  Geez..it's not fair!!

I had no clue how to pack "lightly" the first time and Harley Man was not a happy camper!  So I decided I better use my researching skills to find out how other "biker babes" packed for a trip.  Low and behold, there are actually sites where a girl can learn the fine art of motorcycle packing!!!  It's an art, okay maybe not an art, but that's how I think of it.  Rolling clothes is the way to go when packing. 

So now when I pack for a weekend bike trip...this is what I actually take!!!  Go Deb!!! :) 

 Yep, a pair of jeans, a pair of shorts, three shirts, lingerie, socks, makeup, shampoo/conditioner, toothbrush/toothpaste, perfume/lotion, brush/comb, hair dryer, straighting iron, 2 bandannas!!!  That's plenty for a weekend stay.  Amazing, right???  LOL, okay maybe not amazing but "Heck Yeah, I Can Pack Light"!!!

Fun, Food, Fellowship!

The H.O.G. group got together this past weekend and we ventured to Florence, SC to finally try a restaurant we've planned going to for several months!!  This time the sky was cloudy with a sprinkle of rain but we were determined not to cancel the ride again.  So with 13 motorcycles in staggered formation, we rode Highway 52 to Florence.  The rain never came, the sun pushed away the clouds and we enjoyed beautiful riding weather.

Our destination was Redbone Alley in Florence.  The restaurant is amazing...two floors designed inside an old JC Penney building to capture the feel of Charleston.  Our resting place was in the bar area....plenty of room for 18 motorcyclists to enjoy a delicious lunch.  The menu was varied and not a single person complained about the food!!!

She'll Be Riding In The Mountains

I don't know about you but for me I love to discover places in the mountains to visit!!  It's just totally amazing what lies in those hills!  If you leave Tuggle's Gap and continue on Hwy 8 you'll arrive in the small town of Floyd, Virginia.  Floyd is filled with food, crafts, music, refreshments and places to stay. 

We decided to visit Floyd (based on all my prior research lol) to do a little sightseeing and discovery.  Floyd is so quaint and I couldn't wait to walk around once we parked the "bikes".  With a population of 432 people, Floyd is full of local talent!  Our discovery of downtown took us inside the Community Market which was closing up for the day but allows local artisans to exhibit their work; inside The Republic of Floyd Emporium where you can find beer/wine selections from all over the world; inside Floyd's Country Store where they serve up pintos and cornbread-have nightly music sessions-have all types of locally made items, inside Hotel Floyd where you can stay in one of 14 themed rooms filled with local furniture and artwork; inside New Mountain Mercantile where local artwork and pottery is sold; inside Nancy's Candy where you stroll around inside a true candy store filled with locally made truffles, flavored fudge and so much more; inside Blue Ridge Restaurant where you find delicious home cooking for lunch; inside Dogtown Roadhouse where you can sit down to enjoy a "refreshment" or woodfire pizza; inside The Station filled with various businesses featuring local furniture/crafts/artwork, inside Oddfella's Cantina which serves lunch and dinner while local musicians entertain you and so much more!!!!!  Floyd also plays host to Floyd Artisan Trail Tour (June 10-15), Floyd Fandango Wine and Beer Festival (July 3-4) and Floyd Fest X (July 28-31), Mountain Music Jams (on Sunday afternoons) and more during the year.

After a good night's sleep, we were up early and eating a delicious breakfast at Tuggle's Gap Restaurant (the french toast is delicious with a hot cup of coffee and some orange juice).  Then it was time to check out and head down the Blue Ridge Parkway.  We stopped at Rakes Mill Pond to look for trout (where mill customers waiting for their grist could fish), then Mayberry Trading Post (once a post office built in 1892) where you can buy delicious apple pies like grandma makes, then Meadows of Dan to fill the bikes up at  Poor Farmers Market (they have gorgeous plants, local produce, cornmeal...you name it-they have it) and guess what.... next door is Nancy's Candy candy factory-where all that delicious fudge I bought in Floyd is made!!!

Once we'd filled the bikes up and finished our snack, it was time to head on down the Parkway for a leisurely ride home.  If you want a beautiful place to visit and love a small town atmosphere...Floyd, Virginia is the place to go.  Just be sure you travel on the Blue Ridge Parkway at some point to discover other sights to see!!  You won't regret the trip one bit!!!!!
