Yep, They're Classy 'N Sassy!!!!

The Salisbury HOG Chapter Ladies of Harley are an awesome group of women!!  I have the pleasure of working with these women this year and I am so excited.  We started a community service project called "Scent of an Angel" and we've had tremendous support from our HOG Chapter members...they've provided all types of shampoos, conditioners, lotions, toothbrushes, toothpaste and more to the Ladies of Harley.

In turn, we package the items into small bags and then donate the bags to various groups in the area in need of these items.  It's a small way to help others and these "Classy 'N Sassy" ladies have already stepped up to the plate!!!  Last night we made 40 packages to be distributed this week and we've only been collecting items for 2 months!!!!  So there will definitely be more bags to assemble in the months to come. These ladies totally rock!!!

Just Saying............

I don't know about you but lately when I read the news or watch TV there is so much going on in this world that makes me shake my head and say "What the Heck" are people thinking!!!  Shootings of children in schools/on college campuses/in neighborhoods; crazy rules being implemented in schools about no best friends/no hugging/making paddles to use for punishment; physical attacks on people just because someone doesn't agree with their clothing/lifestyle...the list goes on and on.
It just boggles my mind and makes me so sad.  Just saying....

Please, Please, Please.......

As you know, Harley Man and I ride motorcycles.  With warm weather upon us, our motorcycles along with thousands of motorcycles will be out and about on the road.  I realize how important it is for a motorcyclist to watch out for vehicles, anticipate the maneuvers of other drivers, drive within the speed limit and show common sense.  In turn, it is just as important for drivers of vehicles to do the same!!!  Unfortunately, one of our fellow motorcyclists encountered a vehicle driver who didn't do this and she was severly injured when the vehicle pulled out directly in front of her in busy traffic leaving her no place to go....not to mention the driver left the scene of the accident.

So I found an article from Iron Works that reminds all of us to
"Watch Out For Motorcycles"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"This is one of those early in the riding season Public Service Announcements where we warn motorists about motorcyclists and motorcyclists about motorists. In much of the country riders are just beginning to get their machines out and enjoying the weather. Just like blossoms on a tree a little warm weather brings us out. So tell your car driving friends to watch out for motorcycles. After a few months of getting used to no bikes on the road, now suddenly they’ll be popping up everywhere.
Motorcyclists should be aware of this fact. We know they don’t see us at peak riding times so now at the beginning of the riding season they aren’t used to looking for us. Remember to try to be as visible as you can. Here’s another look at the 10 Tips For drivers from the MSF:

1. Over half of all fatal motorcycle crashes involve another vehicle. Most of the time, the motorist, not the motorcyclist, is at fault. There are a lot more cars and trucks than motorcycles on the road, and some drivers don’t “recognize” a motorcycle – they ignore it (usually unintentionally).

2. Because of its small size, a motorcycle can be easily hidden in a car’s blind spots (door/roof pillars) or masked by objects or backgrounds outside a car (bushes, fences, bridges, etc). Take an extra moment to look for motorcycles, whether you’re changing lanes or turning at intersections.

3. A motorcycle may look farther away than it is. It may also be difficult to judge a motorcycle’s speed. When checking traffic to turn at an intersection or into (or out of) a driveway, predict a motorcycle is closer than it looks.

4. Motorcyclists often slow by downshifting or merely rolling off the throttle, thus not activating the brake light. Allow more following distance, say three or four seconds. At intersections, predict a motorcyclist may slow down without visual warning.

5. Motorcyclists often adjust position within a lane to be seen more easily and to minimize the effects of road debris, passing vehicles, and wind. Understand that motorcyclists adjust lane position for a purpose, not to be reckless or show off or to allow you to share the lane with them.

6. Turn signals on a motorcycle usually are not self-canceling, thus some riders (especially beginners) sometimes forget to turn them off after a turn or lane change. Make sure a motorcycle’s signal is for real.

7. Maneuverability is one of a motorcycle’s better characteristics, especially at slower speeds and with good road conditions, but don’t expect a motorcyclist to always be able to dodge out of the way.

8. Stopping distance for motorcycles is nearly the same as for cars, but slippery pavement makes stopping quickly difficult. Allow more following distance behind a motorcycle because it can’t always stop “on a dime.”

9. When a motorcycle is in motion, see more than the motorcycle – see the person under the helmet, who could be your friend, neighbor, or relative.

10. If a driver crashes into a motorcyclist, bicyclist, or pedestrian and causes serious injury, the driver would likely never forgive himself/herself.

These are all good tips that every driver, and motorcycle rider, should know and follow!"

What Would You Recommend?

I bought a DLSR Nikon D3000 last year and I love using it to take photographs of events, trips and people.  However; there are times when it just isn't feasible for me to carry my DLSR due to space or events.  So I'm looking for some recommendations about a really good "point and shoot" digital camera that is easy to carry, takes up little space, provides good color, sharpness and clarity of photographs plus being super easy to use since I am a novice with photography.

My daughters bought me a Kodak EasyShare MD863 8MP Digital Camera several years ago and I've loved using it!!  That camera goes everywhere with me and I've had no problems with it whatsoever.  I'd just like to update at this point.

Please help me out here...what camera would you recommend?  Right now I'm thinking about the new Canon PowerShot ELPH 310 HS Digital Camera but I'm just not sure.  I'd like to hear about your "point and shoot" camera!!! I am by no means a great photographer but I do love taking photographs as a way to capture an event or place especially when we're on a ride with our HOG Chapter.
Can't wait to hear about your experiences with your "point and shoot" cameras!!

Casino Night!!

Last weekend Ladies of Harley sponsored a Casino Night.  With a few decorations, lots of poker chips and playing cards, the HOG Room magically transformed into a Casino for the night!!!  Everyone brought appetizers and desserts...let me say there are some awesome cooks in our Harley Owners Group Chapter!!

We had LCR, East/West Hold 'Em, Pokeno, Bingo, Blackjack, Craps, Roulette and Poker tables set up for the high rollers.  Everyone began the night with a $100 poker chip and then the fun started.  Now the "house" did have to advance a few people an extra $100.....glad there wasn't any real money on the line!!  Hahahaha!!!

The night was full of fun and laughter...good times!!!

Both my daughters have stress fractures and are currently wearing a boot.  Neither has any idea how it happened.  Feeling so bad for both of them....hope the healing happens quickly!!

Getting ready for a Casino Night this weekend.  Sure hope everyone has fun!

Feeling a little "out of whack" this week so trying to get my "mojo" back up and running. I won't go into any details...let's just say it's been a little trying this week for a number of reasons!

Having a Party???

I found two delicious recipes I used for two different parties recently. One is an appetizer and the other is a not too sweet punch(don't let the name get you..it isn't only for Mardi Gras)!!! Both are super simple to make...so if you are having a party...try them!!!

Curried Shrimp Tarts

Ingredients

1 cup chopped cooked shrimp (I used canned shrimp because they are small)
1/2 (8-oz.) package cream cheese, softened
3 tablespoons chopped green onions
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1/2-3/4 teaspoon curry powder (I used 1/2 because some people aren't found of curry taste)
1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper
15 -30 mini-phyllo pastry shells
2 1/2 tablespoons jarred mango chutney

Toppings: chopped fresh chives, toasted sweetened flaked coconut

Preparation

Stir together first 6 ingredients. Spoon mixture into pastry shells. Spoon 1/2 tsp. mango chutney over each tart; sprinkle with desired toppings.

Mardi Gras Madness Punch

Ingredients:

1 (40 ounce) bottles grape juice
1 (48 ounce) cans unsweetened pineapple juice
1 (2 liter) bottles lemon-lime flavored soda
2 oranges or 2 lemons
2 limes
750 ml vodka (optional) **I didn't use due to type of party**

Directions:

Add liquids in order given.
Float slices of oranges and limes on top.
